  • Life’s challenges—whether sudden or ongoing—can feel overwhelming, unfair, and isolating. However, facing one’s challenges and fears can lead to self-discovery, personal growth, and positive self-esteem. Zakiya strongly believes that, with appropriate guidance and support, each person has the ability to heal, evolve, and flourish. Whether managing anxiety, depression, life transitions, low self-esteem, trauma, or grief, Zakiya works with clients to create a safe, compassionate space where the client feels heard, valued, and respected. She is committed to working collaboratively with clients and tailoring interventions to meet their individual needs and goals.

Drawing from evidence-based modalities such as CBT, DBT, MI, and solution-focused frameworks, Zakiya integrates cultural and trauma-informed perspectives to ensure therapy is meaningful. Her therapeutic approach is rooted in recognizing and harnessing clients’ unique strengths, fostering resilience, and honoring their cultural identity and lived experiences.

Zakiya deeply respects the courage required to seek counseling. Whether facing a specific challenge or seeking personal growth, she can support you on your journey toward clarity, resilience, and healing.

  • Zakiya has experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families presenting with a wide range of difficulties and concerns. She has also worked in various clinical settings, including schools, hospital outpatient clinics, residential treatment programs, and private practices. Zakiya enjoys helping clients navigate a variety of symptoms and experiences, including anxiety, depression, grief, ADHD, trauma, self-esteem issues, identity formation and exploration, relationship difficulties, and burnout. She invites you to work with her to explore your strengths and opportunities for growth, navigate life’s obstacles, and cultivate a life aligned with your values.

  • Outside of work, Zakiya enjoys traveling, learning about other cultures, and trying different cuisines. Ask her about her most recent trip to Thailand! This was, of course, planned before she knew it would be the backdrop for The White Lotus. When Zakiya is not traveling 18 hours around the globe, she enjoys weekly Sunday dinners with friends, visiting farmers’ markets around the city, exploring museums, attending concerts, working on puzzles, listening to soca, reggae/dancehall, as well as amapiano, and creating floral arrangements.
