DBT Skills Group
We are currently offering DBT skills groups for participants over the age of 18. DBT skills groups are more like a classroom setting rather than a process group. You can expect to meet for 1.5 hours a week, be asked to complete homework assignments to help you practice the skills, and to have fun! Groups run for 8 weeks at a time, and it takes 6 months to complete the full DBT skills program which includes mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness skills. Due to the highly specialized nature of the groups, we are NOT accepting insurance, though you may be able to receive reimbursement through your insurance. Payment for the group session will be made upfront, at $400 per 8-week cycle. We have two options for DBT Skills groups available: Tuesday nights from 5:30pm-7pm in person and Thursday mornings from 10am-11:30am online.
If you are interested in participating in a DBT group or have additional questions, please reach out to Dr. Hannah Carl at hannah@northsidepsychology.org to express your interest.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based protocol that has been proven to increase mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance. Participants often report decreases in anxiety, depression, and emotional reactivity, along with improved communication skills and increased satisfaction in relationships. The group format itself adds benefit by providing normalization, peer support, and opportunities to practice skills in real time, which can increase engagement and skill retention. Overall, DBT skills groups are associated with better coping, greater psychological flexibility, and improved quality of life.
“When we resist change, it’s called suffering. But when we can completely let go and not struggle against it, when we can embrace the groundlessness of our situation and relax into its dynamic quality, that’s called enlightenment.”
